BIOGRAPHY
Fergus Mc Dermott
Fergus McDermott was born on February 25, 1915, in Rye, New York, to Delia Malinda Harrington, age 33, and Stephen McDermott, age 34. He had three brothers Stephen, Francis and Malachy and a sister Margaret. In Rye the family lived on Osborn Road and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. In 1940 Fergus was living with the DePauw family at
92 Grapal Street
.
Fergus married Sally Robinson June 14, 1942 at the Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester, with the Rev. Richard Cook an assistant pastor officiating. He was working at the time as an assistant manager at the A&P Grocery Store in Port Chester.
Fergus enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.
After the war Fergus was working for the government as an airplane mechanic.
By 1950 he had moved to Windsor, NY and was a manager in the Civil Service.
He and Sally had by then started a family having one son Fergus Jr.
In the late 1970's the couple would retire to Lake Worth, FL and spend 30 years enjoying golf and making many friends.
Fergus Mc Dermott, 96, of Lake Worth, FL died Monday July 11, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife Sally in 2009.
